Farewell service for ‘Pearl Harbor Pat’ held at American Legion Post 17

January 16, 2017

American Legion Post 17 wishes to inform everyone of the passing of Edward "Pat" Paterson, a 96-year-old World War II veteran, who died peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center Dec. 29. He was known to most locals as "Pearl Harbor Pat," and post members knew his smile and good bar stories. Time with him over a drink was enjoyed by all.

A fond farewell for Paterson was held Jan. 6. Paterson's stepson and brother-in-law were presented with his American flag.

Thanks go to all who ever gave him a ride; listened to his story; gave some sheets or clothes these last weeks; got him his bowl of soup; gave a hug, a kiss or a salute - he loved it all. For Post 17 he represented what taking care of one of their own is all about. Paterson was a real World War II veteran post members were proud to have with them.
