The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will host its inaugural Red Carpet Party starting at 6 p.m., Sunday, March 15, at the Cinema Art Theater near Lewes.
The event will feature hors d'oeuvres from Chef Heather Baray of Beach House Pantry, free popcorn, and an open wine and beer bar from 6 to 7 p.m. Then, guests can enjoy watching the 98th Academy Awards ceremony in the main theater, seeing all the highlights from the opening monologue to the last trophy presentation.
Guests may feel free to dress casually. All proceeds benefit the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s mission to celebrate independent film, support emerging filmmakers, and engage the community through meaningful cinematic experiences that inform, inspire and connect. Also at the Cinema Art Theater, two new films will open Friday, March 13. “Sirāt,” which earned two Academy Award nominations, follows a man and his son as they track groups of ravers around Morocco in hopes of finding their daughter and sister. “A Poet” tells the story of Oscar, a middle-aged, failed writer who finds an opportunity to mentor a young student and earn a chance at redemption.
Lazy Mary Productions will present “Divas, Divas, Divas” at 3 and 6 p.m., Saturday, March 14, paying tribute to some of the great female singers through the years.The cast includes Lazy Mary favorites Christine Asero, Alexandra Frederick and Donna Tucker-Jones among those who will cover all genres from rock ’n’ roll to R&B as well as country and jazz.
National Theatre Live will present “Life of Pi” Wednesday and Friday, March 18 and 20.
Puppetry, magic and storytelling combine in a unique, Olivier Award-winning stage adaptation of the best-selling novel. After a cargo ship sinks in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, a 16-year-old boy named Pi is stranded on a lifeboat with four other survivors – a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan and a Royal Bengal tiger. Filmed live in London’s West End and featuring state-of-the-art visuals, the epic journey of endurance and hope is brought to life in a breathtaking new way for cinema screens.
