The focus is on basketball

February 28, 2020

The 76ers could be falling apart right before our eyes. It seems like Ben Simmons has a serious back injury. No one knows when he’s going to be able to play again. Not in the near future, that is for sure.

This week, they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road. Pretty lame effort for the 76ers, since the Cavaliers have only won 17 games so far this season. Joel Embiid has a shoulder injury that doesn’t seem to be that serious, but he only played a few minutes last night.

Since the expectations of the team this year were so high to begin with, I think their current coach, Brett Brown, could be on the hot seat if the team does not advance past the second round of the playoffs.

There are only two weeks until March Madness officially begins. This will be undoubtedly one of the most wide-open tournaments in recent memory.

Baylor, number one last week, lost to Kansas last Saturday. There will be at least 10 teams with a chance to win the championship. I think it will be interesting to watch teams like San Diego State or Gonzaga, who can both win the championship.

There are two other stories that need mentioning:

• I’m confused why it has taken so long for Major League Baseball to come out with a report about the Boston Red Sox alleged sign stealing in 2018. They better hurry up and get it out before the 2020 season starts.

• Maria Sharapova announced her retirement from professional tennis this week. She started playing tennis when she was four and won 5 grand slam tournaments, including one in 2004 when she was only 17 years old. Impressive career!

Last, but not least, go Cape Girls basketball. The post season starts now. "Just let it fly."

See you on the sidelines!
