A bicyclist struck early morning July 9 on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach while riding home from a late-night shift has been released from the hospital.

“She was released over the weekend, but she has a long road of recovery,” said Matt Weiner, owner of Zelky’s, a Boardwalk amusement center where the 21-year-old international student worked.

Weiner helped set up a GoFundMe site for the young woman, who asked that her name not be released.

“She wants to keep it private and quiet,” he said.

The woman was struck at 1:08 a.m. by Megan Smith, 20, of Lewes, who was charged with felony forgery, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to have insurance identification, inattentive driving, failure to remain within a single lane, and failure to report a collision involving alcohol or drugs. Police said the felony forgery charge is related to her fake identification card.

Smith was released on her own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing in Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.

Weiner said he’s unsure whether the victim will be able to return to work.

“The Zelky’s team is helping her however we can,” he said.
