Garden club set to host Spring Into Milton fundraiser May 24

Event seeks support to replace lost Horseshoe Crab Festival revenue
May 9, 2025

After the annual Horseshoe Crab and Shorebird Festival was canceled this year, the Milton Garden Club was left without one of its big fundraising events.

“We were pretty shell-shocked,” said Treasurer Kathryn Greig. “It’s not our biggest fundraiser, but it did generate quite a few dollars for us.”

Figuring the club can sell plants whether there are horseshoe crabs or not, Greig told Milton Town Council May 5 that the club has decided to do its own event, which will be called Spring Into Milton.

While it won’t be a traditional festival-style event, Greig said the club will be out in front of the Milton Historical Society on Union Street selling plants and used garden items. She said there will also be a raffle for a homemade plant stand donated by Milton resident Al Benson, and there will be baked goods for sale from The Backyard.

Greig said the Milton Lions Club has agreed to run its train in Milton Memorial Park during the event, and the fire department will be having a barbecue. While it won’t match the normal setup at the Horseshoe Crab Festival, Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge representatives will be on hand, and the Milton Theatre will allow the club to use its Quayside Stage area for children’s activities, Greig said.

Spring Into Milton will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at 210 Union St. The Lions Club train will be running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
