Garden Shack Farm to host new farmers market Thursdays starting April 7

March 23, 2016

Garden Shack Farm will be hosting a farmers market from 2 to 6 p.m., Thursdays, from April 7 to Nov. 17. Local vendors will offer fresh produce, eggs, dairy products, flowers, herbs, juices, honey, salads, soups, coffee, meats, seafood and locally created baked goods, craft items, jewelry and wood projects. Sussex County Mobile Library will be on-site with story time, craft time and library book checkouts from 2 to 3 p.m., every third Thursday beginning April 7.

Each week shoppers can relax and enjoy dinner at the market from one of the food vendors while picking up items for the weekend, checking out the market's featured guest, and watching the chickens peck around happily.

Market vendors include Adkins Produce, Alaskawild Seafood, Black Hog Farmstead, Chapel's Country Creamery, Fresh Harvest Hydroponics, GreenMan Juice Bar and Bistro, Hattie's Garden, JuiceFresh Juice and Detox, Kalmar Farm, Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor, Muddy Truck Flower Farm, Old World Breads, The Point Coffee House and Bake Shoppe, Rosenfeld's Roadside Jewish Deli, Seaglass Originals, Stag Run Farm/Chrissy Bee's Honey, Sugar Spice and Everything Nice, T.A. Farms, Totem Farms and Union Street Woodwork.

"Vendors will be added throughout the year. We've got lots of room, and we think the more, the merrier. We hope this will be a wonderful weekly community event," said Laura Kucharik, market manager. Stephanie Moody, who has plenty of experience with farmers markets as a vendor with her business Yum Yum Sweets and Treats, will be assistant market manager.

Tom and Laura Kucharik opened Garden Shack Farm in spring 2014 growing and selling annual and perennial flowers, vegetable and herb plants, several varieties of trees, shrubs, and ground covers, and eggs from various breeds of hens. Garden Shack Farm is at 19884 Beaver Dam Road (Route 23), Lewes.

There will be no parking along Beaver Dam Road, as there is plenty of parking on-site at the farm. Spring hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and 12 to 4 p.m., Sunday.
