Gary Wingate Lavachia, proud Rehoboth native

April 4, 2020

Gary Wingate Lavachia, 70, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford Saturday, March 28, 2020, after a short illness. Gary was born in Beebe Hospital March 22, 1950, son of the late Joseph and Irene (Wingate) Lavachia.

Gary was a lifelong resident of Rehoboth Beach, of which he was very proud. Gary was equally proud to be an RHS Seahawk, as a member of the last graduating class of the former Rehoboth High School, Class of 1969. He was voted Best Dressed in his senior year. Gary enjoyed collecting both Rehoboth Beach and Delaware memorabilia.

After working in construction during his early years, Gary found his niche at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel with the Zerby family, where he was a faithful and dependable employee for many years until his retirement.

Gary is survived by his older siblings: Antoinette Austin and her partner Ted Green of Rehoboth Beach, Elaine Stant and her husband Ronald of Williamstown, Mass., and Joseph Lavachia and his wife Hope of Rehoboth Beach. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service will be held at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, 187 Henlopen Ave., Rehoboth Beach, at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.

For those wishing to honor Gary's memory, donations may be made to Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE. 19958.
