George William Burroughs, loved his family

September 2, 2025

George William Burroughs, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, in Lewes. He was 74.

Born April 12, 1951, in Camden, N.J., George was the son of the late Harry and Dorothy (née Leeson) Burroughs. He graduated from Springfield High School in Pennsylvania in 1969.

George had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He found joy in caring for his yard, riding his Gator, and tending to his trees and plants. He had a lifelong love for animals, especially his beloved fur babies, Mya and Bear, huskies who were always close by.

An adventurous spirit, George enjoyed boating, camping, going for drives in his classic cars, and relaxing in his hot tub. He could always be found listening to music or watching YouTube videos.

Family was at the heart of everything George did. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Burroughs (née Ford); his children, Alycia, Andrew, Alexander and Arthur Burroughs; and his grandchildren, Brandon, Justin, Julia, Skylee, Alexander, Fiona and Desmond. George was blessed with a great-grandchild, Maximus, and is also remembered by his nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Burroughs and Dorothy Leeson Griffonetti; his brother, Harry D. Burroughs II; and stepson, Julian Brooks.

George loved dining out and spending time with family. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the strong values he passed down through generations. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at Mary Mother of Peace Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, with a visitation starting at 10 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
