A Georgetown man faces charges March 20 after police say he led officers on a car chase near Bridgeville.

Police spotted a 2004 Kia at 1:23 a.m. after the driver failed to used a signal to turn left onto Coverdale Road from Mill Park Drive, and when a trooper tried to pull the car over, the driver sped away, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

The driver continued speeding northbound on Chaplains Chapel Road until coming to a stop on Tuckers Road west of Oak Road, DeMalto said. The driver, Rodney Hearn, 48, showed signs of impairment and was found with about .38 grams of crack cocaine that police said he tried to destroy. A computer check showed Hearn had three prior driving under the influence convictions.

Hearn was taken to Troop 5 and charged with felony fourth-offense DUI, felony disregarding a police officer signal, tampering with physical evidence, and other drug and traffic charges. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $15,211 cash bond.
