Glitz & Glam meshes fashion, fun and philanthropy
The Harry K Foundation’s sixth annual Glitz & Glam fashion show and luncheon took place Sept. 18 at the Cambria Hotel near Rehoboth Beach.
About 170 women attended the sold-out event, which was a fundraiser for the foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood hunger throughout Delaware.
“Every ticket purchased, every donation made, every outfit modeled today represents hope on a plate for a child in need,” said founder Harry Keswani. “You’ve shown that kindness is always in fashion.”
The event spotlighted the latest fall styles from two local boutiques, Saltwater Roots and Jenny Leigh Boutique, and featured exclusive shopping opportunities and a catered lunch. There were also $20 grab bags available for purchase, each containing prizes valued between $25 and $800, including a large-group wine tasting and tickets to the Harry K Foundation’s gala.
“Every penny earned feeds another child,” said foundation spokesperson Robyn Rosenfeld-Aburrow, though she declined to disclose how much money the event raised.
The foundation has 52 food pantries across the state and funds 725 food backpacks to send home with students in need over the weekends and school holidays. It also supports mobile pantries and desert oasis sites by delivering food to underserved neighborhoods during the summer, when kids are out of school and without access to pantries in schools or backpacks.
Additionally, it provides emergency nutrition for 200 infants and toddlers every month at the Lewes-Rehoboth Community Center Baby Pantry and helps meet the nutritional needs of kids whose parents are part of the Warrior Community Connect.
“Let’s keep walking this runway of change,” Keswani said at the fashion show. “Let’s keep lifting each other up. And let’s keep feeding not just stomachs, but futures.”
