Good things come to those who search!

June 9, 2016

Rehoboth Beach is full of nooks and crannies where good food is served with a smile. As part of my efforts to keep you happily nourished, I’ve assembled a short list of downtown delights that might be a little hard to find. Remember, this is just the short list, so feel free to explore on your own.

The silver lining to Leo Cabrera having closed his Modern Mixture Too in Milton is that he is now free to concentrate on the mothership: The Modern Mixture with the bright orange awning on the ocean block of Rehoboth Avenue. Don’t blink! You’ll miss it – along with crunchy chopped salads laced with fresh lime juice, delicious burritos, Cubans and savory appetizers.

Tucked into a courtyard next to CAMP Rehoboth on Baltimore Avenue is none other than Lori’s Oy Vey Café, sporting overstuffed sandwiches and her signature chicken salad.

Your favorite salad recipes will never forgive you if you miss the mother of all hidden gems, Olive Orchard Tasting Room! Roy, Laura and John will take you on a journey of taste that you will not soon forget. Be sure to ask them for the Rehoboth Foodie’s pick hits! And just slightly east is the equally successful Spice & Tea Exchange. These tiny stores will kick up your homemade creations like no other.

The brand new Juice Box behind Scandinavian Occasion at 2nd and Rehoboth Avenue is well worth the search. Lisa Daisey’s freshly squeezed juices and healthy sandwiches are your reward for finding this hidden gem. Look for Twist Juice Bar to open soon near Olive Orchard Tasting Room. Too much cool and fresh juice? Never!

Now that Seafood Shack is the stuff of Baltimore Avenue history, a potential hidden gem is in our future when the proprietors of Blue Moon open the brand new … oops – you’ll have to wait for that one. (See Meg? I CAN keep a secret!)

Last and certainly not least is Zogg’s on Wilmington Avenue just behind Gus & Gus’ Place. This is another tasty find marked only by an awning. But beyond that awning is … Key West! Fried alligator (tastes like chicken – sort of), live steel drums, perfect fish tacos and booze in the blender. Zogg’s is the perfect place to recover when you blow out your flip flop by steppin’ on a pop top.
