Grocery Outlet at Rehoboth Mall opening April 4
After nearly a year, renovations for the Grocery Outlet at the Rehoboth Mall appear to be nearing completion. A large banner announcing a Thursday, April 4 opening was recently installed along Route 1.
A Facebook page for the new store was created in February.
“Our grand opening is just five weeks away and we can't wait to meet all our new neighbors,” reads a Feb. 29 post on the Facebook page.
Grocery Outlet Bargain Market describes itself as “the nation’s largest extreme value retailer.” It was founded in 1946 in San Francisco, Calif., by Jim Read under the name Cannery Sales. As of now, there are no other Grocery Outlet stores in Delaware. There are two on Maryland’s Eastern Shore – Salisbury and Elkton.
According to a sign on the door, Grocery Outlet, 18910 Rehoboth Mall Blvd., will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. The sign says the store offers “a wide selection of fresh produce, fresh meat, deli, dairy, packaged groceries, frozen, health and beauty care, and general merchandise products.”
Except for a Spirit Halloween in 2021, the space has been vacant since Peebles closed a few years ago. There had been talk of the off-price retailer Gordmans taking over the space, but it never came to fruition.
