January 14, 2021

Harold R. Stintsman, Retired MSG, U.S. Army, E-8, 75, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, Jan. 5, 2021, holding his wife Sandy’s hand, and in the presence of the rest of the family.  He was born Feb. 11, 1945, to Louise and Thomas Stintsman. He grew up in Labertville, N.J.

Hal joined the Army after high school.  He was stationed at many U.S. locations, as well as France, Italy, Germany and Vietnam. After serving 22 years in the Army, Hal retired, and he and Sandy were married 37 years ago.

Hal was employed by the State of Delaware as a bailiff in Superior Court and later at Chancery Court.

Being a fireman was Hal’s passion. He was very dedicated to Station #77, Georgetown Fire Company and served as secretary for over 25 years. He won Fireman of the Year in 1997 and won the President’s Award in 2009 as well as many other awards. Serving as fire police captain was something he really wanted to do.

Hal was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, beloved granddaughter, Heather Cowell, siblings, Charlotte, Jane, Thomas, Robert, and Sandy’s parents, Albert and Ethelyne Harper.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Harper Stintsman; stepson, Ric Cowell; daughter-in-law, Diane Cowell; stepdaughters, Dana Hicks and family, and Nikki Watson and family; remaining brother, James (Elizabeth) Stintsman; sister-in-law, Karen (Bill) Haggerty of Felton; brother-in-law, Randy (Pam) Harper of Georgetown and brother-in-law Jimmy (Doris) Larrimore of Laurel; many nieces and nephews; and the congregation of Old Paths Church of Christ where Hal and Sandy were members for many years.

Hal and Sandy loved children and helped to raise Kady and Jonah, and mentored to several others.

Hal has been cremated according to his wishes, and his remains entrusted to Sandy.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for spring with date and time posted at church and in the paper.
