Harrison Senior Living names Michael J. Jacobs as CEO

December 16, 2011

The Board of Directors of Harrison Senior Living has selected Michael J. Jacobs as chief executive officer.

Jacobs has a 30-year leadership career in senior services with experience in finance, operations and staff development. He is the recipient of multiple awards while serving in managerial roles in Philadelphia, Pa.-area retirement communities.  Jacobs was most recently the president of BHP Services in Philadelphia and joined Harrison Senior Living Dec. 1.

“Mike impressed all of us with his strong leadership and management skills,” said Ellen Harrison Saunders, chair of the Harrison Senior Living Board of Directors. “He is a true visionary as well as a strategic thinker, and the depth of his experience speaks for itself. We are proud and pleased to have Mike continue our mission of providing the best possible care to our seniors in an atmosphere of warmth and caring.”

“I’m excited beyond belief," Jacobs said about his new position. “I knew right away that it was a great fit. Harrison Senior Living has always been well respected as a dynamic organization staffed by tremendous people, and I look forward to reaffirming their commitment to excellent care. I consider this a great opportunity both professionally and personally. Seniors have an incredible life story and if we don’t take the time to listen and understand, it’s to our detriment.”

Jacobs earned his master of business administration degree from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pa.; he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Eastern College in St. Davids, Pa.

Harrison Senior Living was founded by James P. and Katherine S. Harrison, RN, in 1967 when they purchased a 17.5-acre farm in Christiana, Pa. The company constructed a skilled nursing facility on this site, which opened in July 1972. The facility’s first resident was James P. Harrison Sr., the father of the company’s founder. The Harrison family continues to operate communities with the same values and commitment to excellent services. The facilities include Harrison House of Coatesville, Pa.; Harrison House of Christiana, Pa.; Harrison House of Georgetown; Harrison House of Snow Hill, Md.; and the John B. Parsons Community in Salisbury, Md. They offer skilled nursing care, assisted living/personal care and independent living options.
