Henlopen Chiropractic is celebrating 20 years in the Cape Region and remembering friends who have passed on.
The first annual Bill and Luke Day is set Monday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Savannah Road office.
Dr. Debra Hobbs, owner of Henlopen Chiropractic, said the event will bring back former staff and friends to meet with residents and to educate others on the advances in chiropractic services.
Two former patients - Bill and his dog Luke - helped spread the word about how chiropractic and natural remedies helped them after a serious car accident. Bill, a mobile knife-sharpener from Milford, died last year over Memorial Day. His best friend and companion, Luke, died several months later.
"Bill and Luke came to us reluctantly," said Hobbs. "Bill only came as a last option, but it seems many of my patients come here as the last option."
After the car accident, Bill was more concerned for Luke, who was given just months to live because of brain injuries. Hobbs worked on both of them at the Lewes practice, and both went on to live for 12 years after the accident.
"Bill became my biggest fan, and he started to spread the word about what we did for him," Hobbs said. "This celebration is on the first anniversary of his death. It is a way to carry on Bill's crusade to teach people about what chiropractic has to offer."
During the open house, stations will introduce visitors to acupuncture, aqua massage, spinal alignment and other topics. Healthy food will be provided, and all donations given during the free event will benefit Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary in Georgetown and Home of the Brave in Milford.
Hobbs said her patients have ailments that include headaches, lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica and arthritis.
"So many people live with needless pain," Hobbs said.
Henlopen Chiropractic accepts Medicare, insurance and auto insurance coverage plans, but does not accept HMO insurance. Most services cost less than $60 per visit, Hobbs said.
