Historical society sets collectibles and antiques show

Lewes Historical Society’s Coastal Collectibles & Antiques Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, rain or shine.

Attendees will be surrounded by antique treasures and hard-to-find collectibles from all periods. Dealers chosen to participate in the show offer a wide array of items from their varied collections.

Also attending the show are numerous collectors’ associations from the Mid-Atlantic region, including Delaware Doll & Collectors Club; First State Antique Tractor Association, with at least two vintage tractors on display; The Wheelmen with pre-1933 bicycles; Delaware Seaside Railroad Club from Selbyville; Delmarva Antique Bottle Club; and Potomac Antique Tools Association.

Two late additions to the vendor list are Jayne's Reliable Antiques in Dagsboro and The Barn Door Antiques from Millsboro. Comics and Gaming from Bethany Beach will be on hand for the kids and kids at heart collectors.

The Rev. Charles E. Covington will be on hand to demonstrate the fascinating art of turning corn husks into chair seats, baskets and other woven objects.

Throughout the day, the air will be filled with the sound of music. In the morning, DJ45 will be spinning tunes from his impressive collections of 45s.

Food vendors on site include SmashMouth Smash Burgers dishing up the main course and Kona Ice providing the perfect complement. The folks from Carmella’s of Scranton will offer up their famous cannoli and Italian pastries.  

Admission to the festival provides access to all LHS properties and museums including the Ryves Holt House gift shop and information center, the Maritime Museum at the Cannonball House, the Lewes U.S. Lifesaving Station, the Lewes History Museum and the LHS Antique Shop.

Proceeds from this event will benefit educational and preservation programs at the Lewes Historical Society.
