Long-time Delaware car dealer i.g. Burton & Co. is expanding its footprint in Sussex County with the purchase of Nucar's Lewes Automall on Route 1.
“It's a natural progression for us to be in Lewes,” said Charlie Burton, president and owner of i.g. Burton, in a press release. “My family started selling cars in our general store in Millsboro in 1908, and I am the fifth generation to be in business. I'm excited about operating the i.g. Burton Lewes Automall. There is a lot happening here, and we love being a part of it.”
The new purchase adds Buick and GMC to the company's roster of vehicles, including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The company also operates stores in Milford and Seaford. The i.g. Burton Lewes Automall also will feature an expanded line of preowned vehicles.
Director of Operations Pete Renzi said the Lewes location adds about 300 vehicles to i.g. Burton's stock, which already includes about 1,500 vehicles ready to hit the road from the company's Seaford and Milford locations.
“Purchasing Lewes Automall enables us to better serve the customers that we already have in the area,” Burton said. “It also gives us the opportunity to show other people the integrity we have in running our operation in order to earn new business.”
I.G. Burton is one of few companies nationwide to receive the Century Award from the National Automobile Dealers Association, which recognized the company for being in business for at least 100 continuous years.
Starting as CP Diver Chevrolet under the ownership of Cliff Diver, the car dealership has served the Cape Region for more than three decades. Diver sold the business to Chris Dagesse in 2008 and the business joined the Nucar Auto Group in 2012.
