Ina Ola Martin, cared for others

Ina Ola (Brewer) Martin, 78, of Lewes, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, at Beebe Healthcare.

Ola was born in Snow Hill, Md., daughter of the late George and Margaret (Jones) Brewer. She resided in Lewes in the Sweet Briar development for many years before becoming a resident of Excelcare in Lewes.

Ola served a lifetime caring for others. She was a CNA for many years at the former Lewes Convalescent Center, and at Genesis Healthcare in Milford. Her love of caring for others led her to also operate an in-home daycare, and in later years, she was a private duty nurse for the William Hopkins family.

Ola loved her church family and had attended First Baptist Church of Milford for many years. She loved keeping her hands busy, whether making beaded bracelets or crocheting.

In addition to her parents, Ola is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph A. Martin; a son, Charles Wayne Kenton; a sister, Becky; a brother, Lawrence Brewer; and stepchildren, Betty Craven, Ralph Martin and Pat Gargano.

She is survived by two children, John Lee Kenton Jr. and Dawn Martin Smith (Seneca Morris Sr.); a sister, Betty Foltz; nine grandchildren, John L. Kenton III, Jamie Young, Jessica Ayers (Milton Ayers), Joshua Kenton, Justin Kenton (Carlotta Kenton), Ja’Mya Smith, Jerry Smith Jr., Jerrikah Smith and Seneca Morris Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, James Martin (Joan), Bob Martin (Gwen), Billie Martin (Peggy) and Charles Martin, and their families; as well as several nieces and nephews, and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 416 Federal St., Milton, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
