Innocence Project Delaware director to speak Nov. 14
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice will host Claudia Trupp, director of Innocence Project Delaware, at its town hall meeting set for 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, both online and in person at the Lewes library.
Trupp will explore the issues of wrongful conviction and its impact on race, with a question-and-answer session to follow.
Innocence Project Delaware was established in 2018 as the only organization focusing on claims of actual innocence for people in Delaware who have been wrongfully convicted. The project provides pro bono services to investigate and seek relief for claims of wrongful conviction as well as follow-up support to individuals who have been exonerated. It also seeks to remedy the causes of wrongful convictions, including official misconduct, bad science, eyewitness misidentification and prejudice.
Housed at Widener University Delaware Law School, Innocence Project Delaware is in the advantageous position of having law students eager to work on these important issues in a clinical setting. When not working with specific individuals, they help educate the public about potential criminal justice reforms related to wrongful conviction and access to justice.
