International Food Festival set Nov. 15 in Milford
The Riverwalk Park on Walnut Street will take on an international flavor with a sampling of food in celebration of Milford's diverse cultures from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15. The vendors will sell food samples from around the world, reflecting the community that makes Milford a great place to live, work and play. The cuisines will vary from local Delaware tastings to morsels from further afield such as Central America, Korea, Puerto Rico and Greece.
Vendor LeLoLi Cafe will be bringing their new food truck. Owner Maria Bryant, who is originally from Puerto Rico, said she is excited to be taking part and is looking forward to seeing existing customers at the event and hopes to introduce lots of new people to her cafe. Among their samples, they will offer three different kinds of tacos and a traditional Spanish plate of roast pork with yellow rice.
Westside Restaurant will be serving up Greek specialties like moussaka and pistachio. Among the vendors list are Abbott's Grill, Bibi's Taqueria, Arena's, A'Late Sol, Sabor Latino, La Ortolana and Fortunata Bakery.
Noa Kornbluh, an Americorps VISTA, working with Downtown Milford Inc. through the Delaware Economic Development Office for a year is organizing the festival. Kornbluh is working towards a greater diversity engagement and outreach in the organization, helping to create permanent events and plans for DMI to build on.
"Food is something that everyone shares and it can help connect cultures,” said Kornbluh. “This event is all about exposure, not fund raising. It is about bringing people together downtown to experience the different cultures within our community.”
The Music School of Delaware will entertain the crowds with a performance by a flamenco guitarist and face painting for the younger connoisseurs fun. The Mispillion Art League will provide extra entertainment for the youngsters with pavement chalk painting.
The International Food Festival is sponsored by DMI and First State Manufacturing, with continuing sponsorship by BayHealth and The Milford Chronicle.
