Dozens of friends and family members turned out Aug. 22 at Israel United Methodist Church on Plantation Road to dedicate a bench in memory of Betty Gooch. She passed away June 5, 2012, after fighting a battle against cancer.

Born in Lewes, she worked for the Cape Henlopen School District for 36 years, last serving as computer lab manager at Shields Elementary School in Lewes. She was a lifelong member of Israel church and served on many local and regional church committees, including serving as conference lay leader.

The bench was donated by Seashore Striders, thanks to the efforts of Tim Bamforth, one of Betty's coworkers.
