The 2014 Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival will take place at venues throughout the Cape Region Oct. 16-19. The event is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

James is joined by celebrated keyboardist, composer and studio musician Brian Simpson who returns not only as musical director but also Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival Artist of the Year. Leroy will sing and strut and remind us of his previous performances at jazz fest in the early 1990s. The band will feature two outstanding horn players. Dancing is welcomed. Sharing the stage will be Gerald Albright, one of the most respected, multi-dimensional and sought-after saxophonists to straddle the fence of jazz and R&B.

• Paul Taylor and Jackiem Joyner *, 8 p.m., Rusty Rudder, 113 Dickinson Ave., Dewey Beach. American smooth jazz saxophonist Paul Taylor released eight albums since his 1995 debut, “On The Horn.” He performed as special guest for The Rippingtons in 1999 and 2000 and has collaborated with many R&B vocalists including LaToya London, Regina Belle and Terry Dexter. Saxophonist and flautist Jackiem Joyner will share the stage with Taylor. “Evolve” marks Joyner's return to the contemporary jazz-urban instrumentals for which he achieved notoriety on his first three albums after 2012’s “Church Boy,” an offering that landed on Billboard’s Jazz Albums and Top Gospel Albums charts. Joyner was named Debut Artist of the Year for his 2007 debut, “Babysoul,” by Smooth Jazz News.

• Stanley Jordan *, 8 p.m., Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Road 271, Rehoboth Beach. It’s been more than a decade since this fretboard-tapping phenom released an album on a major label. Jordan’s relentless touring schedule and innovative independent records have kept him at the outer limits of what is possible with jazz guitar. Be it bold reinventions of classical masterpieces , or soulful explorations through pop-rock hits, to blazing straight-ahead jazz forays and ultramodern improvisational works, Jordan can always be counted on to take listeners on breathless journeys into the unexpected. His solo performances feature not only his mind-bending technical prowess but also his considerable chops on the piano.

• Clarence Spady Band, 8:30 p.m., Bethany Blues, 18385 Coastal Hwy., Lewes. Bethany Blues in Lewes honors the past and the future for the jazz festival's 25th anniversary and will feature outstanding musicians who were performers in the early years of the  event. Leroy Hawkes will take the audience back to the soul and classic R&B sounds that played an important role in the integration of early popular music and its great crossover success. For those folks who caught his early performances in Rehoboth, Clarence's magic on the guitar and the depth of his songs certify Clarence as one of the great players at this festival.The spiritual nature of his singing reminds the listener of the origins of the music.  Recently inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame, Clarence brings his New York City band to this event.
