Jean McCullough Swain, enjoyed Big Band music
Jean McCullough Swain, 81, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011, at her home in Georgetown.
A native Delawarean, Jean grew up in Milford. She graduated from Milford High School and Goldey-Beacom College. Her primary interest over the years was being a loving wife and mother. In addition, she worked at Swain Carpet for over 40 years. Jean enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and dancing, Lawrence Welk and Big Band music. Her holiday dinners were events that her family will always treasure. Jean especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown.
Jean was predeceased by her father, Harry D. McCullough II; mother, Mildred Owens McCullough; and brothers, Harry D. McCullough III, P. Irving McCullough and William R. McCullough. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Nelson T. Swain; and four sons, Dale N. Swain and wife Lorraine of Middletown, Steve T. Swain and wife Christine of Georgetown, David R. Swain and wife Amanda of Georgetown, Jack R. Swain and wife Patty of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; brother, James E. McCullough and wife Edie of Marcus Hook, Pa.; sisters, Sara E. Littlehale of Avon Grove, Fla., Ann E. Dickerson of Smyrna, and B. Irma Prettyman and husband, William of Harbeson; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 22, and also one hour before the service on Saturday.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her caregivers, nurses, doctors and Delaware Hospice for their compassionate home care of Jean during her long illness.
