John A. Anderson, 83, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025. Born in Racine, Wis., Aug. 7, 1942, John lived a life grounded in love, family, and service.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Anderson of Lewes; daughters, Kelly Witsen (Gary) and Morgan Anderson (Reese), both of Milford; and son, Ryan Anderson (Ashley) of Millsboro. John was a proud grandfather to Ben, Jacob, Mara, Remis, and Hope, and a delighted great-grandfather to Marlee and Phoebe. He is also survived by his siblings, Eugene (Nancy), Bill, Mary Schiro, and Sandy, along with many nephews and extended family members.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Delores Anderson; his brother, Jeffrey; and his grandsons, Marcus John and Mylz Joshua.
A graduate of Penn State with a degree in business, John dedicated 34 years to the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves. His commitment to his country reflected the same dedication he showed to his family and community.
John loved the outdoors, whether crabbing and fishing with his grandchildren or spending time on the golf course. At home, he enjoyed relaxing with his favorite shows, Fox News and Judge Judy.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, easy smile, and the way he made everyone feel welcome and valued. His steady presence and laughter will be missed by all who knew him.
A Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at All Saints’ Cemetery, 20274 Beaver Dam Rd., Harbeson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Child Life Program at Nemours Children’s Hospital, nemours.org.
John’s family finds comfort in the many happy memories they shared and in knowing his love will always be with them.
John is in heaven singing with Mylz to all —
“With the words ‘I love you’
Rolling off my tongue
No, never will I roam
For I know my place is home
Where the ocean meets the sky, I'll be sailing."
