The former Happy Cow in Milton is under new ownership, and has been renamed Johnny’s Eats.
Located right along the Broadkill River, the restaurant at 113 Union St. is now a pizza and sandwich shop run by the father-daughter team of Johnny and Bridget Lynch.
Johnny’s Eats is a second career for its namesake, who has barber shops in Lewes and in New Castle County; he plans to open a new barber shop in Milton as well.
Opening a restaurant, he said, is something he always wanted to do.
“It’s a new adventure,” Johnny said.
Johnny said he’s also opening it is so 19-year-old Bridget could run it. The two cook pizza together at home, and Bridget has worked at pizza restaurants before. A graduate of Hodgson Vo-Tech School in Glasgow, Bridget has an interest in business as a career.
Johnny said Milton was an appealing location for their first restaurant venture together.
“Everybody is moving down here,” he said. “It’s growing so rapidly. I think this is a good time to get in. I like Milton. It’s a great little town.”
Johnny said the restaurant is focused pizza at the moment. Specialty pizzas like Buffalo chicken, Philly cheesesteak and chili cheese dog are on the menu, but he and Bridget plan to evolve the menu over time.
“I’m thinking about doing a Thanksgiving pizza,” he said.
Johnny’s Eats does not deliver, although Johnny said they may add that in the future as well.
Johnny’s Eats is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 643-0068.
