Jon LoBiondo and Cape Gazette pick to the top in Colorado

At Ouray Ice Festival in Box Canyon
March 17, 2019

In late January, Jon LoBiondo headed out west with his brother Joe LoBiondo and sister-in-law Sara. Jon is shown in Box Canyon, an ice climbing area located in Ouray, Colorado.

Thousands of ice climbers from all over the world descend upon this small town once a year for the Ouray Ice Festival. Climbers pick their way up the 200-plus routes that are scattered throughout the one-mile section of steep canyon just outside of town. Each route ranges from about 20 meters in height to some routes topping just over 40 meters tall.

For comparison, the new section of Beebe Healthcare being built will be 29 meters tall at the recently approved 95 feet.
