Junior Miss Sussex County raises funds for fight against hunger

May 17, 2025
In keeping with her promise of helping local children during her reign as Junior Miss Sussex County, Serena Jaoude of Lewes chose the Harry K Foundation to be the recipient of donations collected during Worcester Wednesday, March 26, at Worcester Preparatory School, where she is a sixth-grader.

Participating students were able to dress casually for a donation of $5 to her chosen charity. A check for the total amount raised, $2,342.75, was presented to Harry K Foundation Executive Director Laura Annan Glascoe April 9.

Serena chose the Harry K Foundation because it implements innovative strategies to address the problem of childhood hunger in Delaware, which is a persistent yet often hidden issue that adversely impacts various aspects of children’s health. Its dire consequences can negatively impact children's brains and physical development, influencing their growth, learning and behavior.

"By fighting childhood hunger, we are helping with not one, but many problems that affect children in Sussex County," Serena said.
