Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue seeks donations
Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue is requesting monetary donations from community members.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on everyone, even furry friends. Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue was formed as a nonprofit organization in 2006 to serve eastern Sussex communities in managing cat and kitten communities, both domestic and feral.
With traditional fundraising efforts still not possible due to rising COVID concerns, Just Us organizers look to the community for help in providing donations to keep its mission alive.
The all-volunteer organization provides services including rescue; foster; and trap, spay, neuter and return; along with low-cost vaccination clinics. Volunteers also socialize and feed feral colonies. Food, kitten formula, and vet visit costs are provided for foster caregivers if needed; veterinarian visits are arranged if need be.
Keys to the work of Just Us are its alliances with the Brandywine Valley SPCA, local pet stores and a large no-kill shelter in Maryland that takes adoptable cats and kittens. Just Us also works with many other nonprofit rescue groups in and outside Sussex County, since feline friends don’t know about geographic boundaries.
Since the pandemic began, Just Us has arranged for hundreds of spays and neuters; many of these were at no cost to the pet owner or colony caregiver and always at no cost to the foster family.
As a nonprofit rescue group, Just Us relies on donations of all kinds including food, litter and bedding; right now it is most in need of monetary support.
This year, rescue team members have observed an increase in feral cat and kitten numbers across eastern Sussex County. In addition to financial help, the rescue needs volunteers willing to trap community cats and kittens. Traps and training will be provided. Help with transporting traps to the Brandywine SPCA in Georgetown can be arranged.
To help raise funds, Just Us T-shirts are now available for purchase. They have the logo created by one of the Just Us founders, Pat Riordan, emblazoned on the left chest.
