On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the struggling Las Vegas Raiders by a score of 31-0. The offense continued its improvement from the previous week in this game. It seemed like the run and pass plays were pretty well balanced. After the first quarter, there was little doubt who was going to win the game. The defense was very impressive as well. They limited the Raider offense to under 75 yards of total offense for the entire game. Their quarterback Kenny Pickett had no consistent protection from his offensive line.
The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Minnesota Vikings, which means when the Eagles beat the Commanders on Saturday, they will win the division. Unbelievably, that will be the first time in 20 years the same team has won the NFC East division in back-to-back years since the Eagles did it from 2001 to 2004. This week, the Eagles play the Washington Commanders on Saturday night. I hope this level of play continues.
The Phillies have signed two significant players in free agency so far. They signed Adolis Garcia from the Texas Rangers to play right field. He only signed for one year for $10 million. He is a very talented right-handed hitter who is supposed to be a very good defender as well. He helped the Texas Rangers win their first World Series in franchise history in 2023 when he hit 39 home runs. His production has fallen off a good bit which is why he was not resigned by Rangers. I think this is a good gamble to take.
The Phillies also signed relief pitcher Brad Keller, who played for the Chicago Cubs. This is an effort to strengthen the bullpen. He signed for two years. There is also optimism about JT Realmuto coming back, but I think we’re going to have to wait until after Christmas for that to happen.
Congratulations to the University of Delaware football team for a successful season. They won their bowl game Wednesday night and finished their first season as a Division I football team with a 6-6 record.
Also, the college football playoffs start this weekend.
Happy holidays to everyone.
