Laurel & Hardy Film Festival coming to Rehoboth Oct. 19

October 9, 2019

Last year’s viewing of the movie “Stan & Ollie” rekindled interest in this iconic comedy duo. And although there’s always been a devoted fan-base for Laurel & Hardy, there hasn’t been as many opportunities to view their films in recent years.

With this in mind, the Rehoboth Beach Public Library is pleased to host a free public screening of a selection of their funniest short subjects. The event will take place 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, in the library’s second floor special events room. Attendees are guaranteed to be captivated by these beloved comedians. As an extra, there will be a surprise short comedy by Our Gang.

Local film buff and lifelong Laurel & Hardy film collector Rehoboth resident Bob Ackerman has assembled four of the pair’s funniest short subjects, complete, uncut, and loaded with laughs. “Curating this special program has been a pure joy,” Ackerman notes. “We are so appreciative of the Rehoboth Beach Public Library’s interest and support in bringing Laurel & Hardy to the beach.”

Ackerman is a member of the Sons of the Desert, the international organization of Laurel & Hardy aficionados that supports screenings of “the boys” throughout the world. It is hoped that the Laughternoon festival may generate interest in the organization by local attendees.
