Lawrence Albert Miller, loved sailing

February 11, 2022

Lawrence Albert Miller (Larry), 89, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022.  Larry was born in Port Allegany, Pa. to Lawrence (Chick) A. and Giovanna (Jennie) Miller. He graduated from Port Allegany High School and the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy in Rhode Island for six years, which inspired his lifelong love of sailing. Larry married Sandra Jean Brundage in 1958 and they remained partners in life, dance, and adventure until her passing in 2011. Larry loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling and skiing. For many years he was an instructor at Jack Frost Mountain and also taught his grandchildren and great-grandson to ski. Larry and Sandra co-owned Sanlar Inc., and ran the company together until 1999. Larry loved a good joke, a glass of good wine, and vodka.  He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was beloved by his family and friends. Larry also volunteered with several organizations, including Retired Executives Service Corp., Beebe Healthcare and Thrift Shop, Mended Hearts, Knights of Columbus, and Seniors Helping Seniors.

Larry was predeceased by his daughter, Jenifer and sons, Michael and Matthew. He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Clarke; his daughters, Patricia Doughty (Don), Frances Pepoon (Bill), Lauren Stopyra (Mark), and Amanda Archer (Steve); seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The memorial service is being planned for the end of April.
