Learn from deer management experts this month
Delaware Secretary of Agriculture Ed Kee is inviting farmers, landowners, hunters and other interested guests to attend a Quality Deer Management Association session from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, in the Exhibit Hall at the State Fairgrounds in Harrington.
This educational session is designed for farmers, landowners and hunters to help manage deer populations, mitigate crop damage and improve hunting opportunities.
Topics will include deer biology, reproduction, feeding habits, migration and behavior. Habitat management, population dynamics and many other deer-related topics will be covered.
There will be time for participants to ask questions pertaining to their individual operations. The session is free and open to all interested persons.
Young people who are interested in hunting and/or agriculture are welcome. No reservations are necessary.
Kee said, “I am really pleased to welcome our team of experts to Delaware: Joe Hamilton and Kip Adams of the QDMA [Quality Deer Management Association], Dr. Mark Conner of Chesapeake Farms and E.W. Grimes of the Maryland Branch of QDMA. These gentlemen will discuss in detail how farmers and hunters can best work together to set and attain goals for managing deer to maximize farm profits and improve recreation opportunities.”
The event is cosponsored by the Delaware Department of Agriculture, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and the Quality Deer Management Association.
During the session, QDMA will give away two door prizes: Roundup herbicide, and a Cuddeback deer scouting camera.
