The Rehoboth Beach History Lecture Series will kick off its schedule of upcoming monthly gatherings with “Lorenzo Dow Martin and his Farmhouse” at 7:15 p.m., Thursday, March 10, in the Kent/Sussex Room at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in Rehoboth Beach.
In 1873, Lorenzo Dow Martin’s farm was sold for use as a religious camp meeting site and Christian seaside resort. The 200-year-old farmhouse still exists on Christian Street in Rehoboth. The farm property became the modern commercial core of Rehoboth Beach.
The fee to attend each lecture is $25, and reservations are required; call 302-521-4190. Lectures will typically run from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to begin with dinner in the beautiful Victoria’s Restaurant next to the lecture venue. Reservations should be made for 5:30 p.m. or earlier to allow time for an enjoyable meal before the presentation begins; call 302-227-0615 to reserve dinner seats.
Paul Lovett, creator of the miniature village diorama of 1910 Railroad Era Rehoboth, will moderate lectures. Proceeds in excess of expenses will go to sustain the diorama project. Details about upcoming presentations will be released soon. For more information, email Lovett at paul@pdlovett.com.
Supporting organizations for the lecture series are Rehoboth Beach Main Street, Rehoboth Beach Homeowners’ Association, Village Improvement Association, Lewes Historical Society, and Town of Henlopen Acres.
