Letter: Democrats prepped Dr. Blasey Ford? So what

October 15, 2018

In the Oct. 5 Cape Gazette, Steve Hyle said the Democrats did a “masterful job of prepping Christine Ford in the fine art of projecting credibility and fostering sympathy.”

For the sake of argument, let’s say he’s right: The Democrats prepped her. But here’s the important question: Was she telling the truth?

If she was, who cares if she was prepped? Brett Kavanaugh would be guilty of both sexual assault and of lying under oath. (He lied about lesser issues.)

If, on the other hand, the Democrats prepped Blasey Ford to commit perjury, they would be guilty of grossly unethical - perhaps even criminal - behavior. In that case, any Democratic senator involved should be removed from office. But, clearly, congressional Republicans don’t believe that’s what happened. If they did, Sen. Mitch McConnell wouldn’t be calling for an investigation about a two-bit “scandal” like Blasey Ford’s leaked letter.

Don’t buy the Republican nonsense about the lack of “due process” for Kavanaugh. Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s other accusers and the Democrats all welcomed “due process.” They wanted a full investigation. Not Kavanaugh. He kept dodging the question, saying he would do “whatever the committee wanted,” knowing full well the Republican-controlled committee would do nothing of the kind.

When Sen. Dick Durbin asked him directly about calling for an FBI probe, Kavanaugh had nothing to say. His silence spoke volumes.
