The Lewes 8-10 all-stars defeated Georgetown 10-6 July 9 at Milton Little League’s Dr. Tobin Field to move on in the District 3 bracket. Lewes plays Millsboro Thursday, July 10, for the opportunity to meet Milton in the finals. Millsboro lost to Milton 7-0 July 9.
Due to a postponement July 8, Lewes and Georgetown started off in the top of the third inning 0-0.
Georgetown drew first blood, as they plated two in the top of the third. Lewes followed in the bottom with three runs, then added two more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Georgetown put four runs on the scoreboard to take a 6-5 lead, but the Lewes squad had different thoughts, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead 10-6.
The Georgetown boys outhit Lewes 12-6.
Renzo Lake delivered with two RBIs, while Austin Coulter, Shane Reynolds, Joey Petito and Bentley Jackson each had one RBI.
Lewes right-hander Conor Cleary went 4.2 innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out three. Reynolds came in from the bullpen to strike out two. Deacon Jones finished the job, striking out the last Georgetown batter.
Donald Lewis led Georgetown with two RBIs. Grady Dickerson, Garrett Mears, Kyrie Marshall and Colton Lane each knocked in a run.
Georgetown pitchers Dickerson, Lewis and Mears teamed for eight strikeouts.
“The boys came out tonight fired up and ready to play a tough Georgetown team,” said Lewes manager Patrick Jackson. “We played great defense and even turned in a double play. They continued to work hard throughout the game to bring home the win. We are all very proud of them for continuing to battle in this tournament.”

He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
