Lewes Cycle hosts second Light Up the Night Ride

200 cyclists celebrate the holiday, support Mason’s Mobility Mission
December 23, 2023

The streets of Lewes were filled with even more holiday lights Dec. 14, as 200 cyclists took part in the second annual Lewes Cycle Sports Light Up the Night Ride.

Starting from the bike shop on Savannah Road, cyclists pedaled along the Lewes Lights tour, taking in the Christmas decorations with an escort from the Lewes Police Department. The ride reached its maximum number of riders as determined by the police.

After the ride, cyclists returned to the parking lot of Lewes Cycle Sports, where they were treated to a post-ride holiday party with fire pits and music, provided by Quest Adventures, and refreshments including Dewey Beer.

With a $15 registration fee, proceeds from the ride will benefit Mason’s Mobility Mission to provide free rentals of equipment to families who struggle with access to recreational locations. Sara and Matt Carter, owners of Quest Adventures, created the foundation in honor of Sara’s son, Matt, who suffers from an extremely rare genetic disorder. Through donations and events, the Lewes couple have been able to purchase beach-access chairs and a bike trailer, and lead efforts to get a beach-access mat at Roosevelt Inlet.
