Lewes Diner closing Oct. 19

Owner moving on after 11 years on Savannah Road

One might look at the menu at Lewes Diner and say, “They have everything.”

From big breakfasts to big pizzas, the eating spot at 1201 Savannah Road has been a favorite for the last 11 years.

Now, Lewes Diner is closing its doors for good Sunday, Oct. 19. Owner Mike Yilmaz said it’s time to move on.

“Our lease was up and the rent was going up, so we said enough is enough,” Yilmaz said.

Last year, Yilmaz told the Cape Gazette that an increase in the minimum wage would force him to raise prices. But, he said the higher rate was not a factor in the decision to close.

Yilmaz said he will now devote his time to opening the Game On Sports Complex and Trampoline Park on Route 24 in Millsboro.

He thanked all of his longtime diner customers for their support.

“We have so many regulars and groups. It was heartbreaking to tell them. I’m going to miss all of them. They all want me to open somewhere else. Maybe we’ll open another one somewhere,” Yilmaz said.
