What started as a craft project turned into a successful Biden-Harris campaign fundraiser for one Lewes girl.
Keira Fletcher, a sixth-grader at Beacon Middle School, started making Biden-Harris mugs with her Cricut machine in mid-August, after Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden named Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate.
Keira’s aunt asked if she would make her a mug because she was having trouble finding Biden-Harris merchandise, said Keira’s mother, Erin Fletcher.
“She made one for me, and I posted it on Facebook and it exploded from there,” Erin said. “So, she turned it into a fundraiser.”
With help from her brother Bailey, a Cape High freshman, the two churned out more than 100 mugs and donated $3 from each mug sold to the Biden-Harris campaign.
Erin said she wanted her children to become involved in the election, but COVID-19 precautions prevented much hands-on participation. Through the project, Erin said, her daughter became much more interested in the outcome of the election.
“This was a great way for them to get a personal stake in it and learn more about the process,” Erin said.
Mugs are still available; order by emailing BidenHarrisMugs@gmail.com.
