The City of Lewes Juneteenth Celebration will take place from 1 to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 28, at George H.P. Smith Park, Lewes. This is a free community event, with no admission or vendor fees.
Organizers say this year’s event will be the largest yet, featuring more than 75 diverse participants. Attendees can look forward to live musical performances including Tyehimba African Drum & Dance, The Movement Dance Squad, Best Kept Soul, Christy Taylor Music and more.
There will be community, health and informational tables, as well as a vibrant selection of food trucks and retail vendors offering Black art, clothing, sculptures, accessories, children’s arts, crafts, education and a playground. The event is senior and child friendly, offering family-oriented fun and more.
Notably, 98% of vendors are Black and brown small business owners, coming from as far as New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Washington, D.C., with the majority representing local Delaware communities.
Vendor setup begins at 10 a.m., but food trucks may arrive earlier for spot location (ensure window faces the park) and food preparation. Community healthcare organizations may also arrive early. Volunteers will be on site to assist and direct.
The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be operating in the park from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the other side, so the area will be especially busy.
Additional parking is available at Friendship Baptist Church, St. George AME Church, and Lewes Elementary and Fred Thomas Middle schools. All are within a short walking distance to the park; golf carts will be available to assist, particularly for guests with physical disabilities. For assistance, call 302-752-8112 or 302-344-4420.
In case of continuous heavy rain or excessive heat warning (98°F or above), the backup location is Lewes Elementary School on Savannah Road. Notifications will be sent by text or email or messenger; contact 302-752-8112 or 302-344-4420 for updates.
