Lewes installs new temporary artwork

Sculpture is first of two pieces for summer season
May 20, 2025

The first of two temporary summer art pieces is now standing in Lewes' George H.P. Smith Park.

The colorful sculpture by artist Shelley Parriott, called "Ciel du Soir,” is located between the parking lot on DuPont Avenue and Blockhouse Pond.

It is made of perforated, heavy-gauge aluminum and sits on a bed of stones.

A description on the Lewes Public Art Committee's website says the sculpture provides "constantly changing patterns and optical illusions."

The second art piece is scheduled to be installed in Canalfront Park from Thursday to Friday, June 5 to 6. Created by artist Nikki Lederer, it is called "Reclaiming Remnants.” A reception will be held at the Net House June 6.

The artwork is made of recycled plastic bottles designed to look like climbing vines. The piece will be attached to trellises and hang down so people can touch it.
