Lifesaving skills on display at 44th USLA Mid-Atlantic Regional
Sections of Rehoboth Beach were closed July 9, but plenty of folks were running on the sand and splashing into the water at Baltimore Avenue.
For the 44th year, the United States Lifesaving Association Mid-Atlantic Regionals were held, this time in front of the new Rehoboth Beach Patrol headquarters.
Lifeguards from RBP, Dewey Beach Patrol and Delaware State Parks represented the Cape Region and did very well. DSP took first overall with 43 participants racking up 716 points, while RBP’s 29 guards tallied 304 points to claim second. DBP’s 35 athletes finished seventh and scored 126 points.
DSP’s Elizabeth Fry finished atop the women’s leaderboard with 70 points. Teammate Amy Venables grabbed third with 47.5 points. RBP’s top points earner was Sophia Gulotti, who finished fourth with 46.70 points. Rowan O’ Donoghue collected 38 points and slotted in at sixth. Madelynn McTeer’s 35 points and Meredith Lockwood’s 33.250 were good for eighth and 10th place, respectively.
It was a good day for DSP, as Coleman Woodard’s 48.75 points were the high mark for the men. His teammate Duncan Proxmire wasn’t too far behind with 48 points in second place. The ageless Bailey Noel put up 35.5 points to possess the seventh spot. Isiah Brittingham rounded out the top 10 with 36.75 points.
DBP’s Kolbe Green’s 27.5 points earned the lad ninth.

Aaron Mushrush joined the sports team in Summer 2023 to help cover the emerging youth athletics scene in the Cape Region. After lettering in soccer and lacrosse at Sussex Tech, he played lacrosse at Division III Eastern University in St. David's, PA. Aaron coached lacrosse at Sussex Tech in 2009 and 2011. Post-collegiately, Mush played in the Eastern Shore Summer Lacrosse League for Blue Bird Tavern and Saltwater Lacrosse. He competed in several tournaments for the Shamrocks Lacrosse Club, which blossomed into the Maryland Lacrosse League (MDLL). Aaron interned at the Coastal Point before becoming assistant director at WMDT-TV 47 ABC in 2017 and eventually assignment editor in 2018.
