Lighting the night in blue

Delaware tourism industry shows support for frontline, essential workers
May 4, 2020

Delaware’s tourism industry honors healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers with the #ThanksDE  movement. Starting Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m., Delaware’s tourist sites were bathed in blue light to thank those who have served the state’s citizens so unselfishly throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Other local organizations participating in the  #ThanksDE #lightitblue movement posted on their social media sites.

“We had the building lit in red for Covid19 awareness, but we joined in the national movement #lightitblue in conjunction with the Delaware Tourism Industry for #ThanksDE, and lit the building with blue. We will leave it up for the week, then return to red,” said Andrew Parsell.

The Lewes Historical Society joined the effort to honor frontline and essential workers by shining a blue light on the historic Doctor's Office, located on the LHS Campus.

“From healthcare workers to the police officers, firefighters, EMTs, grocery store workers and transit drivers, these folks have stepped up to protect and provide for the rest of us during a challenging time,” said Gov. John Carney. “This effort, organized by the Delaware Tourism Office, is a small but fitting tribute to them.”
