Loading Sussex pumpkins bound for Thanksgiving pies

Pumpkins have long been a cash crop for Sussex County farmers. This photograph from the mid-20th century shows workers at the H.P. Cannon processing facility in Bridgeville offloading pumpkins. This variety of pumpkin made its way into cookers and cans for eventual mixing with cream and nutmeg and sugar for Thanksgiving pies.
