Gymnasts from Mid-Coast Gymnastic Studio in Selbyville recently competed at Delaware’s USA Gymnastics State Championship in Newark and came home champions.
As members of the only competitive gym in southern Delaware, Mid-Coast gymnasts work hard to stay in competition with larger gyms up north. Last year, many gymnasts were forced to scratch competing at states due to COVID. This year, they were determined to participate and win. Two of them, Adelyn Rogers (10) and Zoe Tuttle (17), came home state champions, winning the all-around in their level and age group. The Xcel Platinum Team also earned the first-place team award.
Kim Wickham, Mid-Coast Gymnastics owner and coach, said, “I am so proud and honored to be able to coach our competitive teams! Their hard work has been reflected in a great season, and we’re looking forward to regionals and nationals in June.”
Mid-Coast gymnasts who earned their way onto the podium include:
• Xcel Bronze: Olivia Lockard, first on bars; Whitney Hjorth, third on vault, first on floor; Alice Rones, third on beam; Talia Stegall, second on vault, first on floor
• Xcel Silver: Aubrey Barretto, third on beam and floor; Layla Hastings, third on vault and floor
• Xcel Diamond: Zoe Tuttle, first on bars and beam, third on floor, first all-around; Rachel Kline, second on vault and bars, third on floor, third all-around

• Level 1: Sophia Nichai, second on vault, third on bars, first on beam, second all-around; Audrey Kastor, third on vault, second on bars; Allie Hughes, third on vault
• Level 2: Romy Calloway, second on bars, third on beam, first on floor, first all-around; Lily Finley, first on vault, second all-around; Rune Walker, second on vault; Jordynn Chambers, third on floor; Saoirse Morrissey, second on beam; Katie Hughes, third on vault
• Level 4: Isabella Rice, third on bars.
The gymnasts competing at the Xcel Platinum and Diamond levels will now compete at regionals in Scranton, Pa., in early June and go on to compete at Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla., in mid-June. They are beyond excited to represent southern Delaware at these two large competitions. The team is looking for sponsors to support their journey.
