Lord Baltimore Lions help out at Food Bank of Delaware

February 17, 2019

With a volunteer shift Jan. 25, members of the Lord Baltimore Lions marked the beginning of a third year of service at the Food Bank of Delaware in Milford.

Lions Clubs in District 22D and beyond strive to address needs in communities they serve. Combating hunger is a major focus of Lions in Delaware and worldwide.

Lord Baltimore Lions meet early the last Friday morning of each month and carpool for the 40-mile ride to the food bank, where they serve a three-hour shift. Usually, six or seven members attend.

Lion Joanne Withers said, “I enjoy working with fellow lions, and the three hours go by quickly.”

Lion Pat Monahan said, “I am tired by the end of the shift, but we all feel good because we know that we are helping people.”

Lord Baltimore Lion Jack Bauer also serves as Lions District 22D Region 3 chair. He said, “Combating hunger is one of the five major service areas of focus. It is important that Lions serve in this area.”

Coordinating Lion John Monahan said, “There are 12 different Lions that have served as part of our team over the past 25 months at the Food Bank of Delaware. We are pleased with the commitment of so many of our members to this cause, and we look forward to the next 25 months and more at the food bank.”
