Louis W. Burton, businessman, legislator

Louis Wyatt Burton, 83, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, in New Smyrna Beach Assisted Living Home, Fla.

He was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Millsboro, son of the late Theodore Burton Jr. and Olive Brittingham Burton. He attended public schools in Millsboro and Georgetown; he was a graduate from Saint James School in Hagerstown, Md., Class of 1953.

He owned and operated Theodore Burton Jr. Company in Georgetown. He was elected to the Delaware House of Representatives and the founder of Burton Realty in Long Neck.

He is predeceased by his wife Helene "Shaver" who died in 2013 and daughter Kristen C. Burton. Louis is survived by his son Michael L. Burton; his nephews Theodore Burton IV and Marc L. Burton; his nieces Georgeanne Herr and Nancy Deal; his stepchildren Theodora A. Tyler, A. Ford Hall Sr., Laurette H. Sisk, Susan H. Miskell, Samuel P. Hall and Jesse S. Hall; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at St. George's Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson, Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to a hospice of your choice.
