The Lewes Rehoboth Association of Churches presented a $50,000 donation to Family Promise of Southern Delaware Dec. 7, to assist in its mission to help families experiencing homelessness.
Family Promise board President Dale Smith said the local affiliate is the second in Delaware and one of 200 across the nation, all working to prevent and end family homelessness.
More than 100 Cape Henlopen School District children are currently experiencing homelessness, he said. Donations help the organization provide mortgage, rent and utility assistance to families at risk of becoming homeless.
“Keeping people in their homes is much more efficient than getting them resettled after living in a hotel,” Smith said.
