Marie S. Garvey, devout Christian
Marie S. Garvey, 88, of Millsboro went to be with the Lord Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021. Marie was born in Milford Nov. 8, 1932, to the late Owen and Pearl (Sherwood) Shannon.
She graduated from Conrad High School in 1950 where she lettered in hockey, basketball and softball. Marie married her high school sweetheart, Robert E. “Bob” Garvey, in October 1952, with whom she shared 67 ½ wonderful and happy years together. They were blessed with two children, son, Robert B. “Brent,” and daughter, Sandra R. Collier.
She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2020; her son, Brent in 1992; her parents, Owen and Pearl Shannon; and her siblings Joseph, Leroy and Ann Shannon. Marie is survived by her daughter, Sandi and her husband Rick Collier; granddaughter Nikki Collier; daughter-in-law Anita Garvey; grandchildren, Kim Garvey, Rob Garvey and Stephanie Baker; and great-grandson, Brent Baker. She is also survived by her sisters, Doris Bootle, Arzella Stewart and Deborah Davis; and brothers, Robert Shannon and C. Wayne Shannon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie’s Christian walk was always a central part of her life. She was a faithful member of Long Neck United Methodist Church, and former member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, where she served as a deacon, elder, and church secretary for many years.
A private memorial service and interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Marie’s memory to Long Neck United Methodist Church, 32051 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
