Marvin Jewell Yates Jr., DuPont retiree

Marvin Jewell Yates Jr., 88, of Jupiter, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, of natural causes in his home with family at his side. Marv graduated college from Loyola University, Chicago, Ill., and thereafter proudly served his country as a captain in the United States Marine Corps. He then began his illustrious 37-year career with the DuPont de Nemours companies, where he worked and traveled throughout the world prior to returning to the Wilmington DuPont headquarters location.

Marv married Gail Stevens Weeden of Seaford, July 27, 1957, in Media, Pa., and began their journey together with their first home in Orange, Calif., while serving in the Marine Corps.

Marv is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Gail Weeden Yates; in addition to his three daughters, Beverly Yates Walter of North Stonington, Conn., Kimberly Lynn Yates (deceased of Kennett Square, Pa.), and Michelle Yates Reckert of Cary, N.C. He is also survived by sons-in-law, Thomas H. Walter, DPM, of North Stonington and Peter A. Reckert of Cary; and his four grandchildren, Brittany Walter Woods (Matthew) of Mansfield, Maine, Justin Thomas Walter of Pawcatuck, Conn., Paige Reckert Happ (Tyler) of Cary, and Hope Kimberly Reckert of New York, N.Y. Marv was blessed with his first great-granddaughter, Reese Mae Woods of Mansfield in early 2022.

Upon his retirement and with his welcoming smile and charisma, Marv spent the majority of his time living in Jupiter, Fla., and Rehoboth Beach. He found enjoyment in golf, boating and spending time with family and good friends. He was also a loving and devoted caregiver to his wife, Gail, for many years.

A private Memorial Service and interment will be held with close family.
