Mary Margaret Niziol, devout Catholic

Mary Margaret Niziol, 98, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.  She was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., daughter of the late Waclaw and Tekla Jedlowski Olszewski.

Mrs. Niziol was an avid knitter, volunteering her time and many items to the Prayer Shawl Community.  A devout Catholic and faithful member of St. Edmond Church, she was a former member of the Blessed Mary Sodality.  Mrs. Niziol, above all, cherished time spent with those she held dear.  She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Niziol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter T. Niziol, in 2001; and her son, Thomas Niziol.  She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Mercurio (Richard) of Holmdel, N.J.; her grandchildren: Nicholas Mercurio (Angela) of Fairfield, Conn., Daniel Mercurio of Long Beach Island, N.J., and Christina Vasquez (Herick) of Holmdel, N.J.; her great-granddaughter, Sophia Mercurio; her brother, Louis Olszewski of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and her daughter-in-law, Candy Niziol of Venice, Fla.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m., at St. Edmond Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Masks and social distancing are highly recommended for the services.

Mrs. Niziol will be privately entombed at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Mrs. Niziol’s memory to St. Edmond Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
